Albany youth take their commitment to D.C.

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Some Albany young people hope to show the power of youth by taking policy ideas right to the policy makers in Washington D.C. Through World Vision, the group of nine went through 20 weeks of youth empowerment training.
They’ll spend the next few days bringing a policy they’ve developed to Congressmen in Washington. Their idea? Abstinence from drugs, alcohol, gangs, and sex.
“Abstinence education is telling you to stay away from the stuff, don’t do it because it can be harmful to you. Comprehensive sex is telling you don’t do it, but if you’re going to do it, use protection. We’re just trying to raise awareness so people can be aware that the safest way is to just not do it at all,” said Chaz Atkins.
“And if it gets passed and it works, then I’ll feel great because I was a part of it,” said Isaiah Smart.
The first empowerment tool these young people will use, is the power to get out of bed in the morning. They have to be at the Airport at 5:00 AM.
