The Pope, The Rabbi and Condoms
Published by anonymous April 6th, 2009 in AbstinenceDr. Laura currently wrote a blog entitled the above talking about the Pope’s recent visit to Africa in which he said that the distribution of condoms would not resolve the AIDS problem; he made it clear that abstinence is going to be the best way to fight AIDS. She went on to state “that many health advocates have gone ballistic in their criticism of his comments. They feel it is one thing to promote abstinence as part of the Catholic religion, but that it is an entirely different thing to preach it to the world.
All of us know that condoms do not work every time; just as Dr. Laura points out, they can break, slip, or can be put on incorrectly. The only thing that works every time is abstinence.
Dr. Laura uses the illustration of a Rabbi who’s son attends a birthday party. Because the son has been raised kosher, he can not eat the food at the party. The mother of the child for whom the party was given complains to the Rabbi that his son was deprived. The Rabbi states that by learning to control his impulses in this area, he will know how to control them in other aspects of his life as he matures and leaves home.
Interesting thought, isn’t it. Children learning lessons to control their impulses which can carry over into their moral values.
Like Dr. Laura, I am not Catholic, but “sexual passion” in the confines of marriage is healthy physically and spiritually.
