Sex Week at Yale: Promotes healthy dialogue or brings disgrace to an otherwise prominent university?
Published by kisa February 7th, 2008 in AbstinenceToting a dark gothic theme, edgy advertisement has aided in announcing the annual “Sex Week at Yale”, which is slated to begin next week. The scheduled line up of events is so provocative; the topics to be discussed would make even the regular Vegas nightlife connoisseur blush. And all of this is coming from Yale, the highly accredited Ivy League that often forces parents to take out mortgages on their homes to afford their child’s tuition.
I wonder how proud those parents would be to see what Yale is bringing to their campus.
Amidst trashy seminars that focus on pornography, distribute free sex toys, and have a Q and A session with adult film stars, there is some light in such a dark event. Dawn Eden, author of “The Thrill of the Chaste”, will be part of a panel discussion entitled “Sex and Spirituality”.
Is Dawn being thrown into a den of lions by speaking at such an event, or is she a ray of hope that attending students need?
As soon as we heard word of this campus event, The Abstinence Clearinghouse had several pro-abstinence t-shirts sent to Yale students who opposed such a low-class campus event. We encourage those students to continue living as an example to your peers and classmates who are trying to figure out what priorities they value most in life.
We commend Dawn and others like her who aren’t afraid to stand up for the right. We know that popular culture often hinders our desire to speak out for what we believe in. Yet, always remember that as abstinence educators, we aren’t here to please Hollywood or to be accepted by the mass media. We’re here for the kids. We’re here to show them a better way to live and to give them tools they need to accomplish their biggest dreams.
