Kaiser Report Summary of Syphilis Concern for HIV in Women
Published by LeAnna August 17th, 2007 in AbstinenceThe Kaiser Report summarized the increase in syphilis and concern for HIV in women. CDC analysts said that syphilis cases have risen annually from 2000 to 2005. They estimate that MSM accounted for 7% of syphilis cases in 2000 but for more than 60% in 2005.
The report recommended, “Some health officials say that the increase in cases among women underscores the need for people to learn their partners’ sexual history because some women might not know that their partners have sex with men. (New York Times, 8/12)”
Exactly how does one obtain a partner’s sexual history? Is it like getting a credit score? When is it not a good idea? If I refuse to have sex w/ a sometimes gay man, is that a hate crime or discrimination? Be practical, teach skills for this?
If sex usually occurs quickly in your relationships, “I know we have just met but before we go any further, tell me about your sex life, what do you like to do?” Do you suppose that line of questioning will slow the sexual activity train down?
Do you say, “I love you”, what kind of sex have you had? Or is it “what kind of sex have you had?–so I will know whether I should love you?”
Ridiculous.
There is no adequate substitute for common sense. “If you have sex with someone, you are having sex with everyone they have had sex with.” Dr. Koop
